Derby City Council has been rated among the best in England
and Wales and provides all local government services to the
people who live in Derby, including schools, social services,
environmental health and transportation. The Council and Derby
Homes were using a finance and purchasing system that no longer
met the evolving needs of the user community and were keen
to implement an e-commerce and corporate performance management
solution in order to deliver cost savings and benefits. Under
the guidance of Peter Dunn, Patech and Oracle Consulting Services
(OCS) demonstrated the significant strengths and benefits
of the Oracle E-Business Suite and how the Patech LG Template
solution addressed the Gershon report. Patech were successfully
awarded the contract which provides a fully supported finance,
purchasing and output documentation solution.

After
securing the upgrade contract at the end of 2005, Patech have
successfully delivered an upgraded Oracle E-Business Suite
R11.5.10CU2 environment for the University of Sunderland.
Patech had previously upgraded the solution from r10.7 to
R11.5.6 in 2002.
Managed
by Stuart Henry, the upgrade will now provide the University
with the most current Oracle E-Business Suite solution operating
on an Oracle 10g database underpinned by Sun Solaris 10 operating
system. The new Oracle solution will enable the University
to consider new functionality such as streamlining and automating
travel spend (Oracle i-Expenses), self service requisitioning
(Oracle i-Procurement), and web based analysis and reporting
(Oracle Daily Business Intelligence).
University

and research and a growing reputation as the university for
enterprise, employment and opportunity.
Patech,
in conjunction with hosting partner, Netstore, were assigned
by the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) to evaluate a number of
options to address the agency’s Euro reporting requirements.
Established in October 2001, the RPA is responsible for the
CAP payment functions formerly delivered by the DEFRA Paying
Agency and the Intervention Board. In line with new European
legislation, the RPA were required to submit reports identifying
the payments made to CAP beneficiaries. However the Euro directive
required the reports to be submitted in Euro currency. Patech
thereby
evaluated a number of options that addressed the requirement,
focusing on Oracle products: Multiple Reporting Currencies
(MRC) and Global Accounting Engine (AX). The evaluation process
concluded Oracle MRC to be the most appropriate solution for
the RPA’s reporting requirement. The Agency is currently
planning the MRC project.
The
Oracle Multiple Reporting Currencies (MRC) feature allows
you to report and maintain accounting at the transaction level,
in more than one functional currency. The Oracle Global Accounting
Engine (AX) program provides a subledger accounting system.
For more information on either of these two products please
contact Patech on Info@Patech-Solutions.com.
Rural
Payments Agency
RPA is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment,
Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). RPA is a major delivery body
for Defra, providing a range of services in support of the
department’s objectives. The key services the RPA provides
are making rural payments, carrying out rural inspections,
and livestock tracing.

by Stuart Henry, the Oracle based solution went live in June
2006. As a result the University is now enjoying a fully integrated,
fully web enabled system addressing finance, procurement and

The
Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is now enjoying
significant benefits as a result of the Patech driven implementation
of the Oracle E-Business Suite.
"Oracle
and Patech have helped us become a real-time enterprise with
improved financial visibility and control, streamlined reporting,
auditing and compliance, lower management overhead",
Julie Duffy, FARMS (Finance and Accounting Records Managed
Service) Systems Manager, CPS
The
CPS has increased the productivity of its finance team by
30%, cut administration overhead and reduced closure time
from three days to 10 mintues by consolidating financial management
and reporting on Oracle. Responsible for prosecuting criminal
cases investigated by the police in England and Wales, the
CPS is committed to harnessing technology to drive business
improvements and generate cost savings to reinvest in frontline
services.
Patech
implemented the Oracle E-Business Suite providing a high performance
web enabled financial management platform allwoing COPS staff
in London, Birmingham and York offices to share accurate,
real-time information. As a result, process cycle times have
been cut and procurement efficiency has improved, with purhcase
orders now used for 20% of all purhcases made.
Financial
managers at the CPS use Oracle Discoverer to drill down into
financial information and interrogate data at the desktop
for improved budgeting, planning and decision making. Data
can be viewed in multiple ways to provide input for internal
and external reports and respond to requests for information.
"Before
using Oracle Discoverer we had to stop work on other projects
if a parliamentary question came in, to ensure that we could
respond to it within the 48 hour deadline", said Julie
Duffy. "We now respond to typical questions in just 25
minutes. This has resulted in dramatic productivity improvements
for our team. Oracle Discoverer also enables us to provide
timely and accessible information in compliance with the Freedom
of Information Act".
The
CPS chose Oracle for its market leadership as the preferred
financial management solution for public sector organisations.
"Oracle
Financials is widely used across central government departments
which helps us interact with them and means we have access
to a large pool of Oracle expertise", said Matt Ralphs,
Oracle Systems Development Manager, CPS.
Patech
met all the criteria set by the CPS and demonstrated how its
public sector experience enabled it to meet the specific demands
of government organisations. "Reference customers
testified to the depth of Patech's skills and expert consulting
services", said Duffy. "We evaluated several system
implementers but Patech offered the best value for money".
Since
the initial implementation of the Oracle E-Business Suite,
Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust (formerly
know as Birmingham Heartlands and Solihull NHS Trust (Teaching))
had been operating their financials and procurement solution
at R11.5.7. Oracle Internet Procurement has steadily been
rolled out to more departments and now has seen the Trust
with over 300 on-line requisitioners. This has now meant the
Trust has been able to eliminate error-prone paper processes,
control maverick spend and ultimately cut transaction overhead.
The Trust, a Managed Service client, awarded Patech the contract
to upgrade the solutuion to R11.5.10CU2. This will ensure
a more functionality rich solution is in place prior to considering
new features available, for example, Oracle Daily Business
Intelligence. The upgrade is targeted to Go Live inMay 2006
providing a more user friendly solution for the Trust.

Operating
at R11.0.3, the London South Bank University
(LSBU)had experienced a major setback with their Oracle HR
environment. The university's human resource database had
been corrupted and damaged to the extent that the only data
stored was on backup media. Consequently LSBU assigned Patech
to undertake a database recovery procedure to restore the
University's R11.0.3 instance. Following on from this, Patech
subsequently upgraded the solution to themost current release
of R11.5.10CU2. In line with the new release, Patech provided
training around new functionality within the Oracle HR solution,
and also further enhancements to the system. The system successfully
went live in February 2006 and now LSBU look forward to planning
the next stage of development.
